Our Lady of Guadalupe

Mary’s apparition in Mexico, known as Our Lady of Guadalupe, to Saint Juan Diego aided the Catholic Church’s effort to bring the Gospel to the Americas. This is why the bishops of the United States affirm:

Mary embraces God’s will and freely chooses to cooperate with God’s grace, thereby fulfilling a crucial role in God’s plan of salvation.

Our Hispanic Ministry will host the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Patroness of the Americas)

On behalf of Bishop Kevin Vann, we invite you to Fiesta Guadalupana (formerly known as Noche Guadalupana) on Friday, December 5. The event goes from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will include Mass, a rosary procession, amazing speakers and more! All are invited. Please enjoy this invitation video in Spanish featuring remarks from Rev. Alejandro Nicolat, Rev. Erialdo Ramirez Alfaro and Rev. Gaston Mediola Arroyo.

AROUND OUR DIOCESE: On Nov. 2, at the Arboretum on the Christ Cathedral campus, Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., gave a talk titled “Our Lady of Guadalupe: Science and the Tilma.” Next to him during its visit to the Diocese of Orange was the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of four Catholic Church-authorized digital images of the original Guadalupe tilma, which dates to 1531 and is above the main altar at the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

In the centuries since the apparition in 1531, the Image has become Mexico’s and the Hispanic diaspora’s most popular religious and cultural symbol.
