Message re: VII Talks

From Chris Morris, Faith Formation Director (May 6, 2025)

Hello All:

We have taken a close look at Father Sy's schedule in the upcoming weeks now that he has returned from a well-deserved post-Easter break. Father Sy will be extremely busy the next few weeks. As a result, we will not resume the Vatican II Talk series until Wednesday, May 28th

I know that is disappointing and that there is no replacement for the theological insights that Father Sy offers us, but below you will find links to two Vatican II related videos from Season #6 of our ELEVATE Talk Series here at Holy Family that may help get you to the 28th. The first video dives into the whats and whys of Vatican II - what the council actually produced and how it has been implemented in the 60 years since its completion. The second video explores one of the more controversial changes that came out of Vatican II - the modification of the Latin Rite of the Mass. It digs into what actually changed and why, exposing many of the misconceptions that you find out there on the internet that fuel the flames of the ongoing "battle" between TLM vs Novus Ordo lovers.

Both videos come at the subject from a historical and doctrinal perspective vs the theological focus that Father Sy has been offering us through his walk-through of Lumen Gentium. I think you will find that these videos will serve as a good compliment to what Father Sy has offered us thus far and will help reinforce many of the points he has made to date. At the very least, I hope these videos can serve to satisfy your Vatican II cravings until Father Sy is able to resume at the end of the month.

NOTE: We pre-record all ELEVATE Talks prior to their delivery so those that want to participate but must miss a talk can still do so. The live ELEVATE talks are more engaging, but most find these pre-records a good second-best option.
